Late on Thursday morning, an Amtrak train collided with a Holdrege woman’s car, resulting in injuries.
The collision occurred just before 11:30 a.m. at a crossing about two miles east of Holdrege, according to the Phelps County Sheriff’s Office. Abigail Woosley, 20, was the driver of a north-bound car that collided with an east-bound Amtrak train carrying 120 passengers, according to the sheriff’s office.
Woosley allegedly failed to signal and crossed the tracks in front of the train, according to the sheriff’s office. The rear of the car struck the south side of the railway, and the driver’s side front corner of the car was struck by the train. The car then performed a single roll before coming to rest on top.
Woosley was injured in the neck and transferred to Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. There were no injuries among the Amtrak passengers.
Woosley, according to the sheriff’s office, was not using a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The inquiry is ongoing.
