On Friday afternoon, a shooting incident occurred near Lexington Market in Baltimore, leaving five individuals injured. According to Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison, a group of individuals were present in the 200 block of Saratoga Street at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Friday. It was during this time that a verbal altercation ensued between two men.
According to police reports, officers witnessed individuals fleeing the vicinity prior to investigating a reported discharge. Four victims were discovered at the scene, and authorities were informed that a fifth victim had arrived at a nearby hospital.
The ages of the victims are reported to be 38, 41, 55, 58, and 63 years old. According to sources, all injuries sustained are reportedly non-life-threatening.
According to the police commissioner, the shooting incident highlights the prevalence of a violent culture.
“They are not afraid of arrest and jail, and they are not afraid of dying. And, when you have people like that, they will commit very, very violent and brazen acts,” Harrison said. “It speaks to the culture that we are all working to change, the culture of violence, which is a way of thinking. And, we have to change that through consequences, but through changing people’s life conditions. If we can change life conditions where they don’t have to commit crimes, that’s a way to do that. But there has to be consequences. But, at this point, that shooter is not afraid of being shot and or going to prison.”
According to Harrison, law enforcement officials were situated in a car at the crossing of Eutaw and Saratoga streets.
At the time of reporting, no additional details were made available to the public.
