Car Accident Taupo: Former Taradale High School students involved in fiery crash that killed two on State Highway 5.
After learning that two of their own were involved in a deadly collision on State Highway 5 close to Taup, the Napier school community came together.
After two automobiles collided on the highway on Sunday night, two persons died and one is still hospitalized in critical condition. David Oliver, principal of Taradale High School (THS), noted that the accident has had a significant impact on the neighborhood.
Former THS students were involved in a major crash on SH5 on Sunday night, according to Oliver.
“We are awaiting confirmation and other details from the police. Our priority right now is supporting our children and the whole school community.
“Our thoughts are with the whanau and the affected students’ friends,” the statement reads.
Jocelyn Mikaere, deputy secretary of Te Tai Whenua Haut, said that in the wake of the tragedy, the organization is helping the school.
“Our Traumatic Incident Team is assisting the leadership group at the school and will be on call as long as necessary. During this really trying moment, our thoughts are with the family and the community, Mikaere said.
Following a two-car collision between Motukino Road and High Level Road just before 6 o’clock on Sunday, emergency services were summoned to State Highway 5.
Sadly, according to a statement from the police, two people perished at the scene.
Additionally, one individual was sent to a hospital in a critical state.
