Following a car accident on Saturday night that left one man dead and another critically hurt, an investigation is being conducted, according to Lorain police.
Around 10:35 p.m., police were summoned to the intersection of Rossi Way and Kolbe Road due to reports of a collision. Upon arrival, the Lorain Fire Department had to rescue a 28-year-old man from the heavily damaged 2005 Dodge Neon’s passenger side seat; he was then flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland by life-flight.
The driver, a Vermilion resident aged 23 who needed medical attention, was transferred to UH Elyria Medical Center. The Lorain-born passenger eventually passed away from his wounds, according to authorities.
The police suspect the driver lost control of the vehicle while traveling around a bend, according to their initial investigation. On Kolbe Road, the car veered to the right side of the street, struck a culvert, overturned, and came to rest right side up in a front yard.
Police reported that reckless driving and high speeds appear to have contributed to the incident and that drugs or alcohol may have been a factor. Police are asking anyone with additional information about the collision to contact them at 440-204-2115.
