Eugene Gates Jr. Obituary: Dallas USPS worker dies amid extreme heat index over 110.
The U.S. Postal Service reports that a postal worker passed away on his route in Dallas on Tuesday due to the intense heat in the area.
Eugene Gates Jr. reportedly fainted in a front yard while door-to-door canvassing during Tuesday’s sweltering weather, and a resident later arrived to administer CPR, according to family members.
The Dallas area experienced a heat index of 115 degrees on Tuesday, albeit the cause of the fatality has not yet been identified. That’s the most in the Dallas-Fort Worth region since 1980, according to NBCDFW.
The National Weather Service states that the heat index is a measurement of how hot it feels to a human body when air temperature is paired with relative humidity.
