In August 1988, 52-year-old local librarian Andrea Cincotta was discovered dead after having been strangled. Her body was discovered in the closet of the house she and her fiance lived in Arlington, Virginia. James Christopher Johnson was the first person to discover her body.
According to reports, Johnson, who was the main suspect, first confessed to the murder, but the circumstances did not fit. At one point, Bobby Joe Leonard, a maintenance worker, was also thought to be a suspect. In the years that followed, he was found guilty in a separate attempted murder and rape case.
While incarcerated in 2018, Leonard confessed to the killing and claimed he had been hired to do it by a white man who had called him and sounded like Johnson. In 2021, both guys were accused. While the accused rap.tist was found not guilty after a trial, the former entered a plea of guilty.
