When they learned that a candidate from tonight’s Monday, March 20, 2023 program had passed away, Mastermind fans were devastated.
Four fresh candidates were welcomed by BBC Two’s Clive Myrie to sit in the fabled black chair in front of the camera and test their knowledge in an effort to advance to the Mastermind final.
The semi-final featured competitors Stephen Finn, Blake Robinson, Anna Milford Goldstein, and Colin Rogers-March; nonetheless, Stephen was declared the winner and advanced to the final after scoring 23 points. But, following the conclusion of the broadcast, the program paid respect to Anna, a gardener with a specialty in the Popes of the Renaissance, and made it official that she had gone away.
Mastermind viewers were left devastated at hearing of Anna’s death and took to Twitter to share their shock, with one person writing: “I was so happy to see Anna Milford Goldstein back on #Mastermind tonight because I absolutely loved her in her first round appearance. However, totally gutted to see the message at the end of the episode to say she’s passed away – what an absolute character she seemed to be.”
A second stated: “That actually bought a tear to my eye when they showed the memorial to Anna. RIP.#mastermind”, while a third added: “Aw man, gutted by the #mastermind post-script, RIP Anna.”
