Matthew Barth, 44, from Ellicott City, has been charged by the police for sexually abusing a 15-year-old at Mount Hebron High School for approximately four months.
On May 2, police were notified of suspected abuse by a friend of the victim. According to detectives, it is believed that there were several incidents that took place inside the school.
According to investigators, it seems that electronic records suggest that Barth engaged in sexual contact with the victim.
According to Michael Martirano, the superintendent of Howard County Public School System, Barth was put on administrative leave and barred from interacting with students after the school system was made aware of the allegation.
According to available information, Barth has been an English teacher at Mt. Hebron since 2003. On Thursday, he was taken into custody in North Carolina and is currently being held there.
According to Eric Robinson, his daughter was a former student of Barth. According to him, he was surprised to learn about Barth’s arrest.
